1st look at Rihanna in Luc Besson sci-fi

PanARMENIAN.Net - Just a day ahead of the teaser trailer's release, a very short video of "Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets" has landed online, AceShowbiz said. Making its way out via Entertainment Weekly, the new sneak peek offers the first look at Rihanna's character, who is said to be a villain, in Luc Besson's upcoming sci-fi-movie.

Speaking about RiRi's casting, Besson told the site, "Rihanna was my first wish," before elaborating, "First, because of her voice and the way she smiles and looks and how she expresses herself. Second, because you know she won't be intimidated on the set. She plays stadiums with 100,000 people. You know that girl isn't shy about the camera and the crew and all this."

Besson also revealed her 20-plus minutes in the movie promise many surprises. "She was very direct with me," the helmer shared. "She said 'Luc, I want to learn, I want to work. Just let me do it.' And I must say that she was a great partner and did everything I asked. And believe me - I asked too much."

In addition to directing the movie, Besson provides the screenplay. The lead characters, Valerian and Laureline, are portrayed by Dane DeHaan and Cara Delevingne respectively. Also starring Clive Owen, Ethan Hawke and John Goodman, the movie is slated to hit U.S. theaters on July 21, 2017.
