Clint Mansell enlisted to score Scarlett Johansson’s “Ghost In The Shell”

PanARMENIAN.Net - Clint Mansell will score the new live action adaptation of cult hit manga Ghost In The Shell, NME said.

Director Rupert Sanders revealed the news at an event in Tokyo, following the launch of the film’s first full trailer.

Mansell, the former lead singer of Pop Will Eat Itself, has been a longtime collaborator of Darren Aronofsky, working on several of films including Requiem for a Dream and The Fountain, The Wrestler and Black Swan.

More recently, the 53-year-old scored Ben Wheatley’s J.G. Ballard adaption High-Rise and an episode of Netflix series Black Mirror.

Ghost in the Shell was created by Masamune Shirow in 1989 as a manga or Japanese comic book, before being made into a Japanese anime movie six years later.

The story is set midway through the 21st century and follows the exploits of a fictional counter-cyberterrorist organisation called Public Security Section 9, which is led by a character called Major Motoko Kusanagi, now hailed as a Japanese icon.

Paramount Pictures’ adaption has been plagued by accusations of whitewashing after Scarlett Johansson was revealed as its lead actress last year.
