Matthew McConaughey's “Gold” shifts wide release to 2017

PanARMENIAN.Net - Matthew McConaughey's Gold has pushed back its release date. The mining drama, initially scheduled for a wide release on Dec. 25, will now hit theaters on Jan. 27, TWC-Dimension announced Monday, Nov. 21, The Hollywood Reporter reveals.

The film will still receive an awards-qualifying run, a Weinstein Co. rep tells The Hollywood Reporter.

Inspired by the Bre-X mining scandal of 1997, the Stephen Gaghan-helmed pic stars McConaughey as a modern-day prospector searching for gold in the jungles of Indonesia. Edgar Ramirez, Bryce Dallas Howard, Toby Kebbell and Corey Stoll also are featured in the cast.

With a script by Patrick Massett and John Zinman, the project was financed by Black Bear Pictures, whose Teddy Schwarzman produced alongside HWY 61’s Michael Nozik and Massett, Zinman and McConaughey. HWY 61 partner Paul Haggis, Richard Middleton and Black Bear’s Ben Stillman are executive producers.

Gold will now open opposite Warner Bros.' ensemble comedy Bastards, starring Glenn Close, Ed Helms, J.K. Simmons and Owen Wilson; Universal's Lasse Hallstrom film A Dog's Purpose, featuring Peggy Lipton, Dennis Quaid and Britt Robertson; and Sony's action flick Resident Evil: The Final Chapter, starring Milla Jovovich, Ruby Rose and Ali Larter.
