Facebook's Aquila internet drone under probeNovember 24, 2016 - 13:04 AMT PanARMENIAN.Net - As Facebook continues to dominate our daily lives through a never-ending influx of pet videos, it's also pretty set on providing internet access to all corners of the globe. It took a pretty significant step towards this several months ago with the first flight of its Aquila drone, though the social network giant has now been dealt a blow in relation to the test. As Digital Spy reports citing Bloomberg, the beaming drone is currently under investigation by the US National Transportation Safety Board after a probe unveiled that the light aircraft actually suffered a 'structural failure' as it prepared for landing. This was, of course, classed as an accident, though still caused 'significant' damage. It also happens to slightly contradict what Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg stated a month after the flight, in which he described the flight as 'successful'. Of course, this is a relative term, with the Zuck-man and Facebook alluding to the structural failure deeper into the statement: "We are still analysing the results of the extended test, including a structural failure we experienced just before landing. We hope to share more details on this and other structural tests in the future. "We gathered lots of data about our models and the aircraft structure - and after two years of development, it was emotional to see Aquila actually get off the ground. But as big as this milestone is, we still have a lot of work to do." Photo: Reuters Top stories Yerevan will host the 2024 edition of the World Congress On Information Technology (WCIT).
