Shailene Woodle, Baltasar Kormakur to team on survival tale “Adrift”

PanARMENIAN.Net - Shailene Woodley is attached to star in the new package “Adrift” with “Everest” helmer Baltasar Kormakur attached to direct, Variety said.

Aaron and Jordan Kandell penned the spec, which is likely to be one of the last big packages to sell before the holiday break. The project will be taken to studios shortly and a bidding war should follow.

The movie is based on the true story of a woman and her fiance who, after setting sail from Tahiti, find themselves in the middle of a massive hurricane. After being knocked unconscious, the woman finds her boat in ruins and her fiance missing, now lost at sea. The rest of the story follows her 1,500 mile journey back to Hawaii while battling the elements.

Woodley was most recently seen in Open Road’s “Snowden” and can be seen next in HBO’s “Big Little Lies.” She is repped by UTA and Principato-Young.

Kormakur most recently helmed the Icelandic pic “Eiourinn,” which premiered at the Toronto Film Festival, and had been developing several films prior to attaching himself to this project.

The news was first reported by Deadline Hollywood.
