Rashida Jones' dramedy “Claws” ordered to series at TNT

PanARMENIAN.Net - TNT is officially sinking its claws into dramedy.

The Turner-owned network has handed out a series order for Rashida Jones-produced dramedy Claws, The Hollywood Reporter has learned. The 10-episode series will debut in 2017.

Originally developed as a half-hour, single-camera comedy at HBO, hourlong dramedy Claws is set in a South Florida nail salon. It is described as a midnight-dark, wickedly funny meditation on female badness that follows the rise of five diverse and treacherous Floridian manicurists in the traditionally male world of organized crime. The series will showcase that there's a lot more going on at the Nail Artisan of Manatee County salon than silk wraps and pedicures. Getting On and Scream Queens star Niecy Nash stars as Desna Simms, the owner of the salon. Carrie Preston, Judy Reyes and Harold Perrineau co-star.

Eliot Laurence created the series, penned the pilot and will serve as co-executive producer. The series was his first-ever pilot.

"Claws is wild and hilarious, and we can't wait for viewers to immerse themselves in this fascinating world," said Sarah Aubrey, executive vp original programming at TNT. "This is a show with great storytelling featuring empowered female characters and brought to life by a diverse group of incredibly talented individuals both in front of and behind the camera."

Claws hails from Warner Horizon Television, with TNT Original Productions boarding as a co-producer. The series expands Jones' relationship with Turner, for whom she stars and exec produces the TBS comedy Angie Tribeca. Jones and longtime producing partner Will McCormack executive produce via their Le Train Train banner (Toy Story 4, Celeste and Jesse Forever, A to Z). Janine Sherman Barrois (ER, Criminal Minds) is on board as showrunner. Nicole Kassell (The Americans) directed the pilot.

Claws joins a roster of dramas at TNT that also includes Animal Kingdom, Good Behavior, The Last Ship, Major Crimes and The Librarians, as well as forthcoming Canadian import Foreign Bodies and Shakespeare-themed Will.

On the pilot side, TNT still has a long roster of projects in the works including Deep Mad Dark, Snowpiercer, The Alienist, Let the Right One In, Monsters of God, anthology Time of Death, Hinges and Tim McGraw vehicle Robbers.
