Green Day to produce punk rock doc “The Story of East Bay Punk”

PanARMENIAN.Net - Green Day are set to produce a new punk rock documentary called Turn It Around: The Story of East Bay Punk, NME said.

Due for release next year, the documentary will also be produced by Green Day’s manager Pat Magnarella.

Turn It Around: The Story of East Bay Punk is set to feature appearances by Green Day, Rancid, NOFX‘s Fat Mike, AFI‘s Davey Havok and Dead Kennedys pair Jello Biafra and East Bay Ray, among others.

The film is described as exploring “Northern California’s pivotal role in evolution of punk rock,” adding “the loud, intense and anti-authoritarian philosophy of music and politics that arose in the late 1970s.”

“Early San Francisco Bay Area punk pioneers like Dead Kennedys, Avengers and Flipper, as well as the MaximumRocknRoll fanzine, helped take the punk underground global.”

Meanwhile, Green Day paid tribute to the victims of the Oakland warehouse fire while performing at the city’s Oracle Arena on Saturday night (December 10).

One of the deadliest fires in the city’s history killed 36 people on December 2 at the Ghost Ship warehouse during a show put on by 100% Silk.

The punk band were active in Oakland’s DIY scene in the late ’80s and early ’90s, and spoke about the community people find in places like Ghost Ship during their performance, dedicating the performance of their song ‘Boulevard Of Broken Dreams’ to those who lost their lives.

“These are people that are just here looking for themselves, just trying to have a moment where they could all just celebrate just being artists and being weird and having fun,” frontman Billie Joe Armstrong told the crowd.
