David Castaneda joins Benicio del Toro, Josh Brolin in “Sicario” sequel

PanARMENIAN.Net - David Castaneda has joined Benicio del Toro and Josh Brolin in Lionsgate’s “Soldado”, the sequel to the critically acclaimed “Sicario”, Variety said.

Catherine Keener was also recently announced to have joined the cast.

“Gomorra” helmer Stefano Sollima is directing the film, which was scripted by “Sicario” scribe Taylor Sheridan. In the film, Brolin and del Toro try to provoke a war with the Sonoran drug cartel by kidnapping Isabel Reyes, the daughter of the cartel’s top gangster.

In a September interview, Sollima said that the film, initially billed at a “Sicario” sequel, will be “a completely different story, with just two of the characters that you met in ‘Sicario.'”

Those two recurring characters would be the hitman played by del Toro and the CIA officer, Matt Graves, played by Brolin.

The sequel is being produced by Thunder Road’s Basil Iwanyk, Black Label’s Molly Smith and Thad and Trent Luckinbill. Edward McDonnell is also producing.

The actor recently appeared in the Sony’s “Freaks Of Nature,” opposite Vanessa Hudgens and Bob Odenkirk. He also booked roles in Amazon’s “The Legend of Master Legend,” opposite John Hawkes and the NBC series “Blindspot.”
