Sia’s “Cheap Thrills” named the most Shazamed track of 2016

PanARMENIAN.Net - Sia‘s ‘Cheap Thrills’ was the most Shazamed track of 2016, NME reports.

Kungs vs Cookin’ On 3 Burners’ ‘This Girl’ and ‘Stressed Out’ by Twenty One Pilots also made the Top Five while Justin Bieber’s ‘Love Yourself’ came in at Number 10.

Drake was the most Shazamed artist overall.

Coldplay’s ‘Hymn For The Weekend’ was named the most Shazamed rock track – and The Weeknd’s ‘Starboy’, came out on top in R&B.

Since it was launched, Shazam’s been downloaded more than one billion times, and gets used around 20 million times a day, reports BBC Newsbeat.

Earlier this year, it was reported Shazam is set to be at the centre of a new game show in the US.

The app, founded in 1999, has hundreds of millions of users worldwide who use the service to identify songs through the means of their smartphone. There have been over 25 billion Shazam searches since its launch as a mobile app.

The service is being turned into a game show in the US, after TV network Fox ordered a slew of episodes of ‘Beat Shazam’. The premise of the new programme will see contestants going up against one another to identify a particular song before anyone else, with the winner from that preliminary round then going through to face the Shazam app itself in an attempt to win the grand prize.

British-born Californian producer Mark Burnett will serve as an executive producer on the show. Fox have yet to announce when the series will either be filmed or air on the network.
