“Generation KKK” gets new title after backlash

PanARMENIAN.Net - A&E has made adjustments for "Generation KKK" which is due January 10. After numerous backlashes including from "Grey's Anatomy" actress Ellen Pompeo, the network decided to change the title of the Ku Klux Klan series to "Escaping the KKK: A Documentary Series Exposing Hate in America", AceShowbiz said.

The cable TV has also responded to Pompeo's criticism on Twitter, "The @aetv doc is abt extracting families from the KKK & exposing hate. ADL supports." However, the actress wasn't entirely convinced as she replied, "Okay if that is what it is PLEASE promote it as such...PLEASE."

The show was initially simply promoted to follow the high-ranking Klan members and their families, but A&E now gives more detailed info on what to expect from the series. It will look into the lives of several families involved with the KKK and efforts to help some members escape the hate group.

On top of that, A&E teams up with civil-rights group Color of Change to help provide context to the documentary. It also will examine the way that the Klan encourages the indoctrination and recruitment of children. "This what happens behind the scenes and how hate groups evolve and continue," Rob Sharenow, executive vice president and general manager of A&E, told Variety. "That was really the focus of the entire series."

Soon after the changes were made, Pompeo commended A&E, "Thank U @aetv for caring enough to make changes."
