The Switch named the most-searched console in 2016

PanARMENIAN.Net - 2016 has been a year of new hardware for the games industry. Sony released the PS4 Pro, PS4 Slim and PSVR. Microsoft released the Xbox One S and has talked a great deal about its plans for Project Scorpio. But neither of these console giants win the accolade for most-searched for gaming device of 2016.

Nintendo, which has released no significant hardware (unless you count new 3DS XL units in fresh colours), takes the top two spots for consoles in the hardware search rankings. The Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Classic Mini: NES occupy number 5 and 7 in the top 10 list, beating PSVR and the PS4 Pro. The devices at the top were the iPhone SE and Google Pixel, Digital Spy said.

  1. iPhone SE
  2. iOS 10
  3. Google Pixel
  4. iPhone 7 Plus
  5. Nintendo Switch
  6. iPhone 7
  7. NES Classic Edition
  8. Galaxy S7
  9. Playstation VR
  10. PS4 Pro

Speculation surrounding the nature of the Switch, known as the NX for the majority of the year, has been near-ubiquitous for the past few months. The console's October reveal has generated a great deal of excitement: more than can be said for the Wii U.

If Nintendo can ride this wave of interest then it could be on to another hit. Though the Switch will have to reach the stratosphere in order to best Nintendo's best-selling home console, the Wii, which has sold over 100 million units.

The Switch is scheduled for a March release sans Breath of the Wild, but with the possibility of a new Mario game and Skyrim joining its launch lineup.
