Pierre Lescure re-elected president of Cannes Film Fest

PanARMENIAN.Net - Cannes Film Festival president Pierre Lescure will remain at the helm of the festival through 2020 after being re-elected by its board of directors Monday, Jan. 16, The Hollywood Reporter reveals.

Lescure, who also serves as head of streaming platform Molotov TV, has been the president of the film festival since 2014, following the retirement of Gilles Jacob after 36 years with the fest.

The vote was unanimous for the co-founder and former head of CanalPlus, a longtime champion of the film community in France. Lescure’s new term will be for three festivals, from 2018 to 2020.

The decision cements the leadership alongside longtime artistic director Thierry Fremaux, who is in charge of the festival's selection.

After ongoing rumors that he was set to depart, Fremaux reaffirmed his commitment to the fest last February.

Cannes is set to celebrate its 70th edition, which is scheduled to run May 17-28.
