Hulu will soon let you download movies and shows

PanARMENIAN.Net - Back in 2015, Amazon Prime Video became the first streaming service to allow its users to download content to their phones and tablets. Netflix followed suit last November, and on Wednesday, January 18, Hulu announced that it intends bring movie and TV show downloads to its platform as well at some point in 2017, BGR reports.

Speaking with AdWeek, Hulu CEO Mike Hopkins said the following when asked about whether or not his company’s service would give users the ability to download content to their devices and watch offline:

“Yes, it’s definitely on our road map. It’s something that we’re going be doing in a few months. We’re working hard on the technology around that and getting the rights squared away.”

Presumably, Hulu will have to contend with the same hurdles as Prime Video and Netflix, which means only a limited amount of the content available on the service will be eligible to download, BGR said.

Downloadable content is certainly an important addition for Hulu, especially now that both of its biggest competitors have brought the feature to their services, but the company is also focused on its upcoming live streaming bundle, which is expected to launch “in the next few months” for under $40.

Hopkins had previously confirmed that Hulu’s live TV package will feature both CBS programming and a cloud DVR feature at launch, which gives it a significant leg up on DirecTV Now. Between downloadable content and a live TV bundle, Hulu is primed to have its biggest year ever in 2017.
