President Sargsyan says doesn't mind changing elections date

PanARMENIAN.Net - Expert reviews on holding the parliamentary elections on April 2 will be published, Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan said Thursday, January 26, adding that he doesn't mind pushing the date back several days.

A number of political groups were concerned about holding the elections on April 2, suggesting to change the date and citing the anniversary of the four-day war as a reason for such a proposal.

Azerbaijan unleashed an overt military offensive against Nagorno Karabakh on April 2, 2016, during which hundreds were killed on both sides. The parties reached an agreement on the cessation of hostilities on April 5 in Moscow.

"Frankly speaking, besides the legal definitions, I have concerns too," Sargsyan said as he was addressing the council session of the ruling Republican Party on Thursday.

"I wanted to dedicate April 2 and the following several days to our heroes and their memory. I wanted to once again reassure our people and the world that we'll act the same way on any other occasion that may emerge."

According to him, the decision on changing the date can wait until all the election participants are revealed."
