Coen brothers’ reboot of "Scarface" gets release dateFebruary 11, 2017 - 11:28 AMT PanARMENIAN.Net - Universal Pictures announced on Friday, February 10 that its new take on 1932's "Scarface" would be getting an August 10, 2018 release in U.S. theaters. Oscar-winning duo Joel and Ethan Coen are on board to pen the script. "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story" actor Diego Luna was previously announced to take the lead role, AceShowbiz said. The upcoming mobster movie hasn't got a new director yet after Antoine Fuqua ("Training Day") left the project in January to focus on "The Equalizer 2". However, several names are reportedly up as frontrunners for the directorial duty, notably David Mackenzie ("Hell or High Water") and Peter Berg ("Patriots Day). "Scarface", which was based on a 1930 novel of the same title, was first brought to the big screen by director Howard Hawks. It follows an immigrant who turns to be a gangster. Later in 1983, it was remade by Brian De Palma, who succeeded to bring more fame to the movie. The 1983 version of "Scarface" earned $65.95 million worldwide. It also nabbed three Golden Globes, including Best Actor - Motion Picture Drama for Al Pacino, Best Supporting Actor - Motion Picture for Steven Bauer and Best Original Score for Giorgio Moroder. A Bluegrass Film and Global Produce production, the new take on "Scarface" has Marc Shmuger, Scott Stuber, Dylan Clark and Martin Bregman, who produced the 1983 movie, serving as producers.
