“Saturday Night Live” surges to its highest ratings in six years

PanARMENIAN.Net - "Saturday Night Live" just surged to its highest ratings in six years. The February 11 episode, which featured Alec Baldwin, Melissa McCarthy and Kate McKinnon mocking Donald Trump and his cabinet, delivered an overall rating of 7.2 to mark the highest-rated episode since a Jim Carrey-hosted episode that aired back in 2011, AceShowbiz reports.

The ratings also mark strongest "Saturday Night Live" season in 22 years. The viewership number of the show has jumped in total viewers to an average of 10.6 million and in the 19-49 demographic to an average of 3.5 million compared to the previous season.

In other news, NBC has just announced that Octavia Spencer ("Hidden Figures", "The Free World", "The Divergent Series: Allegiant", "Zootopia") is set to make her hosting debut on "Saturday Night Live" on March 4. However, no musical guest has been announced yet.

Spencer will be the fifth host for the sketch comedy series this year, following "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story" actress Felicity Jones, "Parks and Recreation" actor Aziz Ansari, "Personal Shopper" star Kristen Stewart and Baldwin. "So this is happening. Hope to see you there. #snl #3/4," wrote Spencer on Instagram along with a screenshot of the announcement, and added on Twitter, "I... CAN'T... WAIT."

"Saturday Night Live" airs Saturdays at 11:30 P.M. ET on NBC.
