“The Purge 4” horror sci-fi release date setFebruary 18, 2017 - 12:25 AMT PanARMENIAN.Net - Universal Pictures and Blumhouse Production have announced a release date for the next installment of "The Purge" movie series, planning to unleash it on July 4, 2018. It doesn't sound coincidence that the untitled fourth installment of the politically-themed horror franchise will hit U.S. theaters exactly on America's 242nd birthday, AceShowbiz said. "The Purge 4" is still written by franchise creator James DeMonaco. However, it will get someone new to serve behind the lens. They haven't announced the new director as of now, but DeMonaco reportedly will work closely with the producers to find a new one for the project. This will mark the first movie out of the previous three films which is not helmed by DeMonaco. The production team still keeps the plot detail under their hat, though in September DeMonaco hinted to Cinema Blend that the next installment might be a prequel. He said, "That seems the natural chapter in this. To say, all right, we've done this trilogy. We see how it got to this point of someone trying to end it-this presidential figure." He went on saying, "Now let's go back and see how all this came about. How did this country get to a place where we now accepting this kind of atrocity, this terrible thing, each year?" "The Purge" (2013), "The Purge: Anarchy" (2014) and "The Purge: Election Year" (2016) were all set in a dystopian near-future where crimes are legalized for 12-hour period each year. Made on a modest budget, averaging between $5-$10 million per movie, the three films grossed approximately $320 million combined at worldwide box office. Ethan Hawke starred in the first movie, while the second and third movies starred "Captain America: Civil War" actor Frank Grillo. Jason Blum from Blumhouse Production, Platinum Dunes' Michael Bay, Brad Fuller and Andrew Form, and James DeMonaco's longtime partner, Sebastien K. Lemercier, are producing the next movie.
