Four Armenians readying for European Chess Championship

PanARMENIAN.Net - Four Armenians will participate in the European Women's Individual Chess Championship 2017 which will launch on April 11 in Riga, the Latvian capital.

Grandmaster Elina Danielyan, international masters Lilit Mkrtchyan and Lilit Galoyan, and women's international master Maria Gevorgyan will represent Armenia in the event.

Coach Artur Chibukhchyan said the team are now training intensively in Yerevan, set to hold a training session in the Armenian town of Tsaghkadzor on April 1-8.

The results of the European games will determine the 14 best players for the upcoming World Championship.

Meanwhile, Samuel Sevian who represents the United States lost to Li Chao of China and was forced to leave the tournament.
The other two players representing Armenia - Hrant Melkumyan and Robert Hovhannisyan - reached a draw each.
"I think people underestimate him because he doesn't have the name like the other ones in the world," Ibrahimovic said of Mkhitaryan.
The 29-year-old Greco-Roman wrestler showed a stunning performance to win Armenia's second gold of the tournament.
