No need for new UN resolution on Karabakh, says U.S. envoy

PanARMENIAN.Net - The U.S. co-chair of the OSCE Minsk Group Richard Hoagland said on Monday, March 27 that there is no need for a new United Nations resolution on the Nagorno Karabakh (Artsakh) conflict, although the organization has expressed readiness to support peace efforts.

The Minsk Group co-chairs visited Armenia on Monday to discuss the conflict settlement process with foreign minister Edward Nalbandian and president Serzh Sargsyan.

Hoagland said he discussed a month ago the issue with relevant UN bodies who expressed readiness to take certain steps, be it in the form of a resolution or support for the peace process.

According to the diplomat, the OSCE Minsk Group, which is tasked with the settlement of the conflict, can turn to the United Nations if need be.

At the same time, Hoagland said there is no "special necessity" for a fresh UN resolution, Panorama. am reports.
