Andrei Konchalovsky's “Paradise” wins big at Russia’s Nika Awards

PanARMENIAN.Net - Andrei Konchalovsky's Rai (Paradise) won best film at the Russian film awards, the Nikas, held at Moscow's Mossovet theater on Tuesday, March 28, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The Holocaust-themed drama also won Konchalovsky the best director award, while the film's star Yulia Vysotskaya was awarded best actress.

Last year, the film collected the best director Silver Lion at the Venice International Film Festival and was later Russia's entry in for the Academy Awards best foreign-language film long list, but failed to make the final nominations.

The best actor award went to Timofey Tribuntsev for his role in Nikolai Dostal's Monakh i bes (Monk and Devil). The film's writer Yuri Arabov collected the best screenplay award, and actor Boris Kamorzin was awarded as the best supporting actor.

Yulia Aug and Yelena Koreneva shared the best supporting actress award for their roles in Kirill Serebrennikov's Uchenik (The Student) and Vladimir Mirzoyev's Eyo zvali Mumu (Her Name Was Mumu), respectively.

Maxim Osadchy picked up the best cinematography statuette for his work on Alexei Mizgirev's Duelyant (The Duelist), and Eduard Artemyev, the composer of Yuri Vasilyev's Geroy (The Hero), was awarded for the best music.

Vitaly Mansky's V luchakh solntsa (Under the Sun) collected the best documentary award.

Alexei Krasovsky, the director of the movie Kollektor (The Collector) received the discovery of the year award.

Renowned director Alexander Sokurov collected the honorary Nika.
