Depeche Mode cancel Minsk show as Dave Gahan is hospitalised

PanARMENIAN.Net - Depeche Mode were forced to cancel their gig in Minsk, Belarus last night (July 17) after singer Dave Gahan was taken ill and subsequently hospitalised. According to reports in the Russian media, the illness appears to be “gastrointestinal”, Gigwise said.

It now looks likely that concerts scheduled for Kiev, Ukraine (July 19) and Warsaw, Poland (July 21) may also be affected.

A statement on the band’s website reads: “We regretfully announce that due to band member illness, Depeche Mode will be unable to perform tonight's show at Minsk Arena in Minsk, Belarus.

“We are currently looking at all options to reschedule this show for later in the tour. We expect to be able to give an update on this within the next week.

“We ask all fans holding tickets for tonight's show to stand by for further information regarding the rescheduling of the show and/or refunds.

Our apologies to all fans in Minsk and we thank you for your understanding and patience.”

Russian media reports that an announcement made to fans at the Minsk Arena who were told: “Dave Gahan will not be able to perform at the concert because of an intestinal disorder.”

The Belarus Ministry of Health confirmed Gahan’s hospitalisation but refrained from making any further comment on his diagnosis and health status. A representative said: “He is being treated, the necessary medical assistance is being provided.”

Depeche Mode are currently on massive world tour to promote their new album, Spirit. They return to the UK in November to play Manchester Arena (17), Birmingham Arena (19) and London’s O2 Arena (22).
