Guillermo del Toro's “The Shape of Water” unveils 1st trailer

PanARMENIAN.Net - The first trailer for Guillermo del Toro's upcoming movie "The Shape of Water" has been released by Fox Searchlight. It introduces del Toro's newest creature, an aquatic man. The "merman" is portrayed by Doug Jones, the actor behind Abe, another amphibian creature in del Toro's "Hellboy" movie series, AceShowbiz said.

The approximately-2-and-a-half minute video also shows how the creature fascinates Elisa (Sally Hawkins), a mute, lonely woman who works as the janitor in the lab where the creature is held captive. "When he looks at me, he doesn't know I am incomplete," she says in sign language. Judging by the trailer, she develops romantic feelings for him and attempts to set him free.

An other-worldly fairy tale, "The Shape of Water" is set against the backdrop of Cold War era America circa 1963. In the hidden high-security government laboratory where she works, lonely Elisa (Sally Hawkins) is trapped in a life of silence and isolation. Elisa's life is changed forever when she and co-worker Zelda (Octavia Spencer) discover a secret classified experiment.

In addition to directing the fantasy romance, del Toro serves as co-producer and co-scribe. Set to be released in the United States this year on December 8, the movie also stars Michael Shannon as Strickland and Richard Jenkins as Elisa's neighbor named Giles.
