Anne Hathaway eyed to replace Amy Schumer in live-action “Barbie”July 25, 2017 - 11:03 AMT PanARMENIAN.Net - Sony Pictures is reportedly eyeing Anne Hathaway to headline their "Barbie" movie. As AceShowbiz reports citing the Tracking Board, the Academy Award-winning actress is currently in negotiations to replace Amy Schumer, who dropped out of the project earlier this year due to scheduling conflicts. However, Hathaway's casting is still "very premature" as it's far from a done deal, and no official offer has yet to be put on the table, notes the site. In addition to Hathaway's casting, the site reveals that Sony is circling Australian director Alethea Jones ("Fun Mom Dinner") to helm the upcoming live-action "Barbie" movie. Still scheduled for a June 29, 2018 release in the U.S., the "Barbie" movie is said to revolve around the main character who gets kicked out of Barbieland for not being perfect enough and goes on an adventure in the real world. Schumer recently did a polish of the script. Producing the project are Walter F. Parkes, Laurie MacDonald and Amy Pascal, while Richard Dickson, president and COO of Mattel, is executive producing. A New York Times profile of Pascal said, "Ms. Pascal think she has finally cracked 'Barbie' as a live-action comedy; negotiations are underway with an Oscar-winning actress for the tonally tricky title role." Meanwhile, Hathaway recently wrapped filming on "Ocean's Eight" and just signed on to star in sci-fi movie "O2". Sony will have to find another leading lady should Hathaway's filming schedule is a problem for "Barbie".
