“The Star” teaser tells the story of Christmas from different perspective

PanARMENIAN.Net - For hundreds of years, the birth of Jesus Christ has been told in various forms and numerous times, but this upcoming movie offers "an entirely different" take on the story. From Sony Pictures Animation that brought to you "Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs", "The Star" tells the story of the first Christmas from the animals' perspective, AceShowbiz said.

The animated movie features former "The Walking Dead" star Steven Yeun as the voice of Bo, a small but brave donkey who yearns for a life beyond his daily grind at the village mill. One day he finds the courage to break free, and finally goes on the adventure of his dreams.

On his journey, he teams up with Ruth (Aidy Bryant), a loveable sheep who has lost her flock, and Dave (Keegan-Michael Key), a dove with lofty aspirations. Along with three wisecracking camels and some eccentric stable animals, Bo and his new friends follow the Star and become unlikely heroes in the greatest story ever told - the first Christmas.

Gina Rodriguez plays Mary, Zachary Levi voices Joseph, Oprah Winfrey voices Deborah the Camel, Kristin Chenoweth plays a mouse, Tracy Morgan is Felix the camel, Tyler Perry plays Cyrus the camel, and Kelly Clarkson voices Leah the Horse. Directed by Timothy Reckart, it features a new song co-written and sung by Mariah Carey.

Gina Rodriguez told USA Today about taking on the role, "I've got the virgin pregnant thing down, let me tell you. I know how to have babies without having sex. And the truth is, I was beyond honored to be offered the role. I grew up with the nativity story." She added, "These are big, holy shoes to fill. As special and glorified as she is, Mary represents that Everywoman."

On how Mary explains the conception of Jesus to Joseph, Rodriguez explained, "It's not like this crazy ordeal or super-complicated. It's like, 'This is what happened. I believe it, (and) if I know the man I have chosen to be with the rest of my life, he's going to understand and walk with me on this journey.' "

"The Star" is due out in the U.S. on November 10.
