More outdoor lighting systems being installed in rural Armenia

PanARMENIAN.Net - Most of the residents of Vardahovit community of Armenia’s Vayots Dzor province are refugees and families that have moved there from different villages nearby. Up until this year, the community lacked outdoor lighting infrastructure.

The streets of Vardahovit will now be illuminated in the evenings after a 1.6 km-long system of 45 LED lights was installed there. The construction of the new infrastructures became a reality as a result of cooperation between the Foundation for the Preservation of Wildlife and Cultural Assets (FPWC) and VivaCell-MTS in the framework of the Alternative Energy project.

VivaCell-MTS General Manager Ralph Yirikian and FPWC founder Ruben Khachatryan, head of Vardahovit community Samvel Gevorgyan and residents attended the launch of the newly-built energy-efficient system.

“One of the priorities of VivaCell-MTS is supporting the development of rural communities as a precondition of addressing social and environmental problems in the country. In lots of communities of Armenia, including Vardahovit, construction of LED outdoor lighting systems, due to its long-term positive impact, brings about improvement of life quality of the residents and sustainable development of the communities,” said Yirikian.

The operation of environmentally friendly and energy-efficient LED lights reduces energy consumption by up to 80%. Due to the installation of such systems, village communities significantly reduce their financial expenses. Saving resources makes life in communities more vibrant.

Outdoor lighting will be provided from 9:00pm to midnight in summer, and from 6:00pm to 11:00pm in winter. On holidays, street lighting will be provided throughout the whole night.
