Iran exports electricity to Armenia in winter and imports it when domestic demand soars in summer. Armenia's minister of energy infrastructures and natural resources Ashot Manukyan discussed the issue with Behzad Babazadeh, Director for International Relations at the National Iranian Gas Company (NIGC). While in Tehran, minister Manukyan also met Armenian-Iranian businessmen who are interested in the prospect of investing in Armenia's wind and solar energy sectors. A newly-established free economic zone on the Iranian-Armenian border is expected to boost bilateral trade between the two countries.
