Serzh Sargsyan invites Turkish president to Yerevan

PanARMENIAN.Net - Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan met in Astana with Turkey's Abdullah Gul and Azerbaijan's Ilham Aliyev to consider the Nagorno Karabakh problem, according to Hurriyet Turkish daily.

The Armenian president has invited Turkish President Abdullah Gul to visit Armenia on September 6 to watch the World Cup qualifying match between Armenia and Turkey.

Turkey and Armenia have had no diplomatic links since 1993, when Ankara closed the border between the two states over the Karabakh conflict. Urging Armenia to give up the process of international recognition of the Armenian Genocide, Turkey suggested formation of a commission of historians to study the fact of Genocide.

When in Moscow, the President Sargsyan said the Armenian side doesn't mind formation of a commission but only after opening of the border. "Otherwise, the issue may be protracted for many years," he said.
