Initial "Game of Thrones" pitch had an unbelievable love triangle

PanARMENIAN.Net - "Game of Thrones" is not afraid of bringing together power couples throughout its elaborate relationships - however it has now been revealed Arya Stark, Jon Snow, and Tyrion Lannister were almost involved in a love triangle, Express says.

GOT has showcased a number of romantic relationships throughout its eight seasons so far.

And while it has ventured into some muddy territories with strange pairings, one potential relationship missed out from being included in the first book.

George R.R. Martin’s first book in the A Song of Ice and Fire series “A Game of Thrones” was originally published in 1996 before being adapted into the HBO show in 2011.

But Martin’s original pitch for the first book in 1993 included a number of story strings that were never explored in the final prints.

According to Business Insider one of these stories included Jon Snow (played by Kit Harington) and Arya Stark (Maisie Williams) falling in love.

An excerpt from the original book’s pitch reads: “Arya will be more forgiving … until she realises, with terror, that she has fallen in love with Jon, who is not only her half-brother but a man of the Night's Watch, sworn to celibacy.

“Their passion will continue to torment Jon and Arya throughout the trilogy, until the secret of Jon's true parentage is finally revealed in the last book.”

As if this wasn’t enough drama for the Starks, Tyrion Lannister (Peter Dinklage) was also due to get involved.

The poor character goes through a lot in his journey - from falling in love, to being betrayed by his own family.

And the original plot for Tyrion involved him having some unrequited love for Arya.

The pitch goes on: “Exiled, Tyrion will change sides, making common cause with the surviving Starks to bring his brother down, and falling helplessly in love with Arya Stark while he's at it.

“His passion is, alas, unreciprocated, but no less intense for that, and it will lead to a deadly rivalry between Tyrion and Jon Snow.”

Although this pitch was never made reality, it is an interesting thought as currently Jon is romantically intertwined with Daenerys Targaryen (Emilia Clarke).

Things in the show would have been a lot different if Jon was determined to begin a relationship with Arya, and would potentially leave him open to retaliation attacks.
