PanARMENIAN.Net - Reality TV star Kim Kardashian, who is of Armenian descent, is continuing to use her vast public profile to discuss the need for prison reform in the United States.
During an appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, the 38-year-old took a moment to discuss the work she’s achieved so far regarding the criminal justice system in the US - and the work that still needs to be done, The Independent reports.
According to Kardashian, the next step is helping people who were incarcerated get jobs.
“I think there’s such a stigma on people hiring formerly incarcerated people,” the social media mogul told Fallon. “I think that, you know, without people really knowing their story and their history about what they’ve been through.”
The issue, according to Kardashian, is partly because of the sentences that some incarcerated people receive for crimes they didn’t commit.
“There’s so many people that are incarcerated for life, for murder, that maybe they were just next to someone and there was a group of people and a fight broke out and somebody unfortunately died. But they didn’t even hit the person, didn’t have a weapon, and were serving life,” she continued.
To help, Kardashian, who’s previously met with President Trump to discuss the issue, said she wants to partner with businesses that work with formerly incarcerated people to find jobs once they are released.
“I would love to hire formerly incarcerated people and I would love to spread that message that other companies and big companies can do that too,” the KKW Beauty owner said.
