Google rolls out watchlist to bookmark shows, movies in search

PanARMENIAN.Net - Keeping tabs on everything you want to watch can be a bit tough. Between new theatrical movies every week, frequent broadcast and cable premieres and fresh shows and films arriving pretty much every day on an ever-increasing number of streaming services, it’s hard to stay on top of everything. Now, it seems Google is offering another way for you to keep track of shows and movies that catch your eye.

When you search for a TV show or film, you might see new options in the knowledge panel: a “Watched It?” checkbox and a Watchlist button. If you click the first, the text will change to “Watched,” according to 9to5 Google, or you can save the show or film to a Watchlist by hitting the other button. The prompts should show up alongside the usual options on where to stream something, buy or rent it or pick up movie tickets in the panel, Forbes says.

As you add more titles to your Watchlist, it seems Google will display others you’ve bookmarked whenever you hit the button. You can see all the titles you’ve saved via a “View All” link that prompts a Google search for “my watchlist” on which all your bookmarked titles will appear. And, as this appears to be an extension of the cross-service Collections feature, you should be able to view them from the Collections hub.

The Watchlist button is only said to be available on mobile web and the iOS and Android Google apps for now. It also seems Google is rolling the feature out gradually, so it might not be available for you just yet. Hopefully, Google expands on the idea and allows you to add items to your Watchlist from other services, such as Google Play and via Assistant, and tells you how you can watch a certain title based on your current streaming subscriptions and local movie times.
