Ambassador urges Germany’s Armenians against joining unauthorized protests

PanARMENIAN.Net - Armenian ambassador to Berlin Ashot Smbatyan has urged Armenians living in Germany against participating in initiatives or protests not authorized by the authorities.

Smbatyan said Armenians should not contribute to the escalation of tensions, amid clashes between Armenians and Azerbaijanis in the various parts of the world.

The ambassador said there has been damage or destruction of property belonging to Armenian embassies, and cases of violence against the members of Armenian communities throughout the world.

Smbatyan called for vigilance and even-mindedness and urged social media users to not spread aggressive footage and comments.

The situation on the border between the two countries escalated on July 12, with Azerbaijan launching several unsuccessful infiltration attempts throughout the next week. The Azerbaijani military also used artillery and combat drones to target civilian homes in several border settlements in Armenia. Five servicemen of the Armenian army were killed, while Azerbaijan reported 12 deaths.

The border unrest has resulted in clashes abroad, with groups of Azerbaijanis attacking Armenians and cars with Armenian license plates.
