Armenia: Catholicos taking "certain steps" in POW issue

Armenia: Catholicos taking

PanARMENIAN.Net - Catholicos of All Armenians Karekin II has been taking "certain steps in the issue involving the Armenian prisoners of war", said Father Vahram Melikyan, the Catholicos's spokesman and the Director of Information Services at the Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin.

Father Vahram said many hours after the emergence of evidence of Azerbaijani troops capturing, disarming and murdering more Armenian POWs, the nation is still waiting for the authorities to provide comprehensive explanation about the whereabouts of the Armenian servicemen.

According to him, one of the monks of the Mother See, Abegha (Hieromonk) Mkrtich Karapetyan, is among the missing persons, having joined the fighting as a volunteer from the first days of the war.

Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, Russian and Azerbaijani Presidents Vladimir Putin and Ilham Aliyev on November 9 signed a statement to end the war in Karabakh after almost 45 days. Under the deal, the Armenian side has returned all the seven regions surrounding Nagorno-Karabakh, having lost a part of Karabakh itself in hostilities.
