New border crosses through cattle shed in Armenian village

PanARMENIAN.Net - The border between Armenia and Azerbaijan now passes through a cattle shed belonging to Styopa Movsisyan, a resident of the Armenian village of Shurnukh, the office of the Human Rights Defender reports.

The barn is adjacent to Movsisyan's house, and the registration of property rights to both buildings is confirmed with certificates from the Cadastral Committee of the Republic of Armenia, Ombudsman Arman Tatoyan revaled on Saturday, January 9.

"We used several versions of Google Maps near the house, each of which yielded a different result, while showing Styopa Movsisyan's house and Shurnukh village entirely in the territory of the Republic of Armenia," Tatoyan wrote on Facebook.

He noted that many such cases are happening these days, and stressed that mechanical approaches to the delimitation of the Armenian state borders should be ruled out. According to him, the process requires professional approaches, scientific research, detailed work of a specialized commission on the spot, a proper legal framework.

It was reported earlier that 12 houses in the village of Shurnukh are coming under the control of Azerbaijan. The Armenian government revealed later that 12 homes will be constructed for the families who have lost theirs in the demarcation process.
