Opposition Bright Armenia accepts President's invitation for meeting

PanARMENIAN.Net - The leader of the Bright Armenia party, Edmon Marukyan, has accepted President Armen Sarkissian's invitation for a meeting between the country's opposition and the authorities.

Marukyan said in a statement Thursday, March 11 that his party is "ready to take part in any discussion that would make it possible to restore civil solidarity and find ways to bring the country out of the deep crisis."

Sarkissian issued a statement Wednesday, maintaining that the situation can lead to unpredictable and irreversible consequences for the state and Armenia's statehood. The President repeated that his only goal is to keep the country away from shocks, to prevent a situation that could lead to unpredictable consequences.

Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan came under fire after signing a statement with the Russian and Azerbaijani Presidents to end the war in Karabakh after almost 45 days. Under the deal, the Armenian side was forced to return all the seven regions surrounding Nagorno-Karabakh, having lost a part of Karabakh itself in hostilities. Armenia plunged into more uncertainty when the top military brass demanded Pashinyan's resignation, and the latter fired the Chief of the Army General Staff.
