OSCE chief: Karabakh outstanding issues remain to be settled

PanARMENIAN.Net - OSCE Chairperson-in-Office Anne Linde has said that the full implementation of the Nagorno-Karabakh ceasefire deal will provide a basis to move forward in the conflict resolution process, adding that several "outstanding issues" remain to be resolved.

After a meeting with Armenian Foreign Minister Ara Aivazian, Linde said Tuesday, March 16 that the situation has changed in the region, following the ceasefire agreement.

"The full implementation of the ceasefire agreement will provide a basis to move forward in the conflict resolution process. As OFCE Chairperson-in-Office, I fully support the work of the co-chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group and my personal representative in their efforts to find a long-term sustainable resolution to the conflict," Linde said.

"Several outstanding issues remain to be resolved. The OSCE and the international community as a whole have an important role to play in dealing with the immediate situation and in finding a way forward."

The Chairperson said she wants to underline that it is essential to respect international law, including international humanitarian law, to boost confidence building measures and provide free access for international players on the ground.

She also weighed in on the political crisis in Armenia: "I am impressed with democratic transformation in Armenia since 2018․ In recent weeks, we have observed how fragile such progress may be. I reiterate my call on all parties to resolve all issues peacefully, respecting democratic processes and the rule of law, according to OSCE commitments."

Aivazian said earlier that Azerbaijan's unacceptable actions are stronger than "hollow talks" about peace and the end of the conflict.
