Prosperous Armenia to "insist" on Tsarukyan's premiership in case of victoryApril 27, 2021 - 14:18 AMT PanARMENIAN.Net - Lawmaker from the opposition Prosperous Armenia party Mikayel Melkumyan has said they are going to "insist" that their leader Gagik Tsarukyan become the country's new Prime Minister if the party wins in upcoming parliamentary elections and forms a coalition, Aysor.am reports. "I am convinced that we are definitely going to win," Melkumyan said, elaborating that no political force will secure a "50% +1" majority in the vote. "A balanced power will be established but Gagik Tsarukyan will be head of state. Objective preconditions have been created in the country which means the head of a political force that has never been in power should become the leader." Melkumyan said Prosperous Armenia will be participating in June 20 elections by itself, but added that no final electoral list has been approved yet. The Armenian National Assembly will convene to elect a new Prime Minister on May 3, after PM Nikol Pashinyan stepped down to pave the way for snap parliamentary elections in the country. Pashinyan came under fire after signing a statement with the Russian and Azerbaijani Presidents to end the war in Nagorno-Karabakh almost 45 days after the start of the military hostilities. Under the deal, the Armenian side was forced to return all the seven regions surrounding Karabakh, having lost a part of Karabakh itself in hostilities.
