Town chief: Russians have arrived in Gegharkunik

PanARMENIAN.Net - The head of the community of Kut in Armenia's Gegharkunik province has confirmed that the representatives of the Russian side have arrived in the village, Pastinfo reports.

Sima Chitchyan revealed that the Russians passed through the village on Saturday, May 29 and went towards the positions of the Azerbaijanis stationed 5.5 km away from the settlement.

"They (the Russian - Ed.) have come for the borders, but we do not know the details, they haven't talked to us," Chitchyan said.

The village chief said the residents saw four vehicles in total, two of which were carrying Russian flags. They have most probably come for negotiations, Chitchyan said, but no information is available for now.

On the morning of May 12, the armed forces of Azerbaijan violated the border of Armenia in the southern province of Syunik, advancing 3.5 kilometers and surrounding Sev Lake, which is situated on the border between the two countries but is predominantly a part of Armenia. On May 13, the Azerbaijani military committed more border violations against Armenia, advancing near Vardenis (Gegharkunik province) and Sisian (Syunik province). One Armenian serviceman was killed in Azerbaijan’s shooting on May 25, while six others were captured on May 27.
