Armenia denies Azerbaijan's accusations of border violation

PanARMENIAN.Net - The Defense Ministry in Armenia on Wednesday, June 2 denied Azerbaijani reports claiming that 40 Armenian troops violated the border in the evening of June 1 and "were forced to return to their original positions" by the Azeris.

The Ministry side said the disinformation seeks to counterbalance Azerbaijan's incursion into Armenian soil and put the blame for the border escalation on the Armenian army.

"The Ministry of Defense of the Republic of Armenia declares that the Armed Forces of Armenia did not cross the border of the Republic of Azerbaijan neither on June 1 nor in the days preceding it," the Armenian side said.

On the morning of May 12, the armed forces of Azerbaijan violated the border of Armenia in the southern province of Syunik, advancing 3.5 kilometers and surrounding Sev Lake, which is situated on the border between the two countries but is predominantly a part of Armenia. On May 13, the Azerbaijani military committed more border violations against Armenia, advancing near Vardenis (Gegharkunik province) and Sisian (Syunik province). One Armenian serviceman was killed in Azerbaijan’s shooting on May 25, while six others were captured on May 27.
