Armenian ex-President's nephew sentenced to 5.5 years in prison

PanARMENIAN.Net - The Yerevan court of general jurisdiction on Wednesday, June 16 sentenced Narek Sargsyan, the nephew of third Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan, to 5 years and 6 months in prison, Sputnik Armenia reports.

After spending several months searching for him following the 2018 velvet revolution in Armenia, law enforcement authorities discovered Sargsyan in the Czech Republic, with a fake passport identifying him as a Guatemalan citizen named Franklin Gonzalez.

Sargsyan is charged with illegal acquisition and possession of weapons or ammunition and illicit drug trafficking. He is under arrest.

Narek Sargsyan had earlier pleaded guilty and asked to speed up the trial without questioning witnesses and examining evidence.
