Armenia should submit complaint with ECHR, HRD tells Pashinyan

PanARMENIAN.Net - Human Rights Defender Arman Tatoyan has sent a letter to caretaker Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, raising the need for Armenia to submit an urgent interstate complaint with the European Court of Human Rights against Azerbaijan demanding the immediate withdrawal of the Azerbaijani Armed Forces from the vicinity of Armenian village and the roads connecting communities to each other, as well as the creation of a security zone.

Tatoyan said he will provide evidence to the Government, confirming Azerbaijan's violations of the European Convention and the urgent need for a security zone.

"In particular, I have already mentioned in several previous statements that the presence of Azerbaijani servicemen on the roads connecting communities in the provinces of Gegharkunik and Syunik violates at least the following rights guaranteed by the European Convention on Human Rights:

"1) the right to life, Article 2 of the Convention;

2) the right to liberty and security of person, Article 5 of the Convention;

3) the right to respect for private and family life, Article 8 of the Convention;

4) property right, Article 1 of Protocol 1;

5) freedom of movement, Article 2 of Protocol No. 4, etc."

The Azerbaijani forces violated Armenia’s border in several sections in the provinces of Syunik and Gegharkunik on May 12 and 13 and are still refusing to withdraw their troops from the area. One Armenian serviceman was killed in Azerbaijan’s shooting on May 25, six troops were captured on May 27, although four of them have already returned home.
