Armenia discovers 97kg of heroin in Turkish citizen's truck

PanARMENIAN.Net - The authorities of Armenia have intercepted an attempt to import 97 kg of heroin by a Turkish citizen from Iran into Armenia.

According to the press service of the State Revenue Committee, the employees of the Committee's anti-smuggling department, with the participation of the Southern Customs Directorate, Russian border guards, as well as the National Security Service and the police, carried out a customs inspection of a truck driven by a Turkish citizen who arrived in Armenia from Iran through a checkpoint in the town of Agarak.

As a result of customs inspection of the truck, 119 packages of heroin weighing a total 97 kg were discovered among metal structures hidden on the roof of the trailer. The market value of the drugs amounts to $10-11 million.

A criminal case has been opened, the Turkish citizen has been detained.
