FIDE World Cup: Haik Martirosyan defeats Ante Brkic in first leg of R4

PanARMENIAN.Net - Haik Martirosyan of Armenia beat Ante Brkic of Croatia in the first game of Round 4 of FIDE World Cup on Thursday, July 22, the International Chess Federation reports.

Martirosyan has to win or draw his second game in order to reach Round 5, otherwise the pair will head to a tiebreak.

The young Armenian grandmaster earlier defeated Shakhriyar Mamedyarov, Azerbaijan's top player and the world No. 6, to reach Round 4 of the World Cup.
