Armenian MP: Moscow negotiations seek to prevent possible escalation

PanARMENIAN.Net - Negotiations are underway in Moscow with the Russian side and the participation of the military representative from Azerbaijan on the prevention of possible escalation in the region, candidate for the post of the head of the parliament's Defense and Security Commission Andranik Kocharyan said on Monday, August 9.

Kocharyan's remarks came in response to a question from MP Anna Grigoryan from the opposition Armenia bloc about negotiations the Armenian Defense Ministry announced at the end of July, Sputnik Armenia reports.

"I find it difficult to say what stage negotiations are at now, and what agreements have been reached between the Ministry of Defense of Armenia and Russia."

At the same time, he said, the talks can't be to the detriment of Armenia. The question is how quickly Yerevan will be able to "restore the lost capabilities" of the Armed Forces, he added.

Kocharian noted that no one can conduct negotiations behind the back of the National Assembly. According to him, everything will eventually be discussed in the parliament, if necessary.
