Yerevan: No talks on demarcation of Armenia-Azerbaijan border

PanARMENIAN.Net - No negotiations on the delimitation and demarcation of borders between Armenia and Azerbaijan are being carried out, Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan said in an interview with RIA Novosti on Wednesday, September 1.

“Negotiations are currently underway, the outcome of which will once again demonstrate the degree of negotiability of Baku, as well as its willingness to abandon the policy of creating an artificial agenda through gross violations of the norms and principles of international law. If Azerbaijan takes a constructive position and withdraws its troops from the sovereign territory of Armenia, i.e. returns to positions they held before May 11, favorable conditions will be created for the start of the process of delimitation and demarcation," Mirzoyan said.

The Foreign Minister added that negotiations are being conducted with the direct participation of the Russian side, and Yerevan does not rule out the possibility of finding a solution to the issue without the involvement of third countries or international organizations.

"Initiatives to deploy border guards and a monitoring mission in certain border regions of Armenia should be considered as a step aimed at curbing the militaristic aspirations of the Azerbaijani side and avoiding bloodshed,” the Foreign Minister said.

Azerbaijani forces violated Armenia’s border in several sections in the provinces of Syunik and Gegharkunik on May 12-13 and are still refusing to withdraw their troops from the area. Since then, almost a dozen Armenian servicemen have been killed in Azerbaijan’s shooting, a dozen others have been wounded, while six troops were captured on May 27, although four of them have already returned home.
