Armenia: Over 770 Covid patients in serious or critical condition

PanARMENIAN.Net - More than 770 coronavirus patients in Armenia are in serious or critical condition, Health Minister Anahit Avanesyan told a Cabinet meeting on Thursday, September 2.

Avanesyan said some 10% of all the Covid-19 tests performed in the country return positive, noting that the new Delta variant is highly contagious and comes with more severe consequences. According to her, young people too are becoming seriously ill. An 18-year-old youth, for example, is currently receiving treatment in the intensive care ward, she said.

The Health Minister revealed that 650 patients are currently in serious condition, while 126 others are critically ill. 51 people are placed on ventilators, she added.

Avanesyan reminded that autumn brings a number of seasonal health risks, stressing the need for keeping the coronavirus pandemic manageable, so that everyone can receive the treatment they need.

The number of confirmed coronavirus infections in Armenia grew by 636 to reach 243,386 on September 2 morning. So far, 227,726 people have recovered, 4876 have died from the coronavirus in the country, while 1159 others carrying the virus have died from other causes.
