Armenia defense chief visits reservists at three-month boot camp

PanARMENIAN.Net - Armenian Defense Minister Arshak Karapetyan has observed the training process involving more than 2000 reservists in a three-month boot camp.

Karapetyan urged the troops to do their best to make the training process as efficient as possible. The Defense Minister reminded that the Armenian Armed Forces are the guarantors of the security of the borders, and that the peaceful future of the country depends on their combat readiness.

"We must learn to be able to defend our country if necessary. No one but us will defend [the nation], the rest can help at best," Karapetyan said.

Acting Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan has proposed deploying checkpoints of Russian border guards along the entire length of the border with Azerbaijan. A deputy spokesperson for the Russian Foreign Ministry has said, however, that Russia cannot deploy border guards on the Armenian-Azerbaijani border due to a lack of international legal framework and the lack of confidence between the parties.
