Security Council: Azeri troops leave Armenian soil after fresh invasion

PanARMENIAN.Net - The Security Council of Armenia on Monday, November 15 confirmed that the units of the Azerbaijani Armed Forces with the support of armored vehicles entered the sovereign territory of Armenia and left after negotiations.

"As a result of the actions of the Azerbaijani Armed Forces, four combat positions of the Armenian Army were under siege. As a result of negotiations, the Azeri military equipment and troops that invaded the sovereign territory of the Republic of Armenia left the territory of the Republic of Armenia, while the units of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Armenia were withdrawn from the four combat positions mentioned above," the Security Council said in a statement.

"Nevertheless, Azeri servicemen who invaded the sovereign territory of the Republic of Armenia in May continue to be deployed in said section."

The statement drew the attention of Russia and the Collective Security Treaty Organization – of which both Russia and Armenia are members – on Azerbaijan's continuous aggression, emphasizing that those actions are directed against regional security and stability, the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Armenia, as they contradict the provisions of the November 9, 2020 trilateral statement.

"The Security Council of the Republic of Armenia expresses the determination of the authorities and the nation to protect the sovereignty, territorial integrity and independence of the homeland," the statement added.

The Council also reaffirmed Armenia's commitment to solving all issues with diplomatic means and urged the OSCE Minsk Group co-chairs to activate their engagement in order to achieve a lasting settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.

Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan told a Security Council meeting on Monday that authorities in Armenia have been holding "various meetings and discussions" since November 14 when the Azerbaijani military invaded the country's territory in one of the eastern sections of the border. According to him, the Council was supposed to make decisions in several directions aimed at the protection of the security, territorial integrity and sovereignty of Armenia.
