Armenia asks Russia to help protect its territorial integrity

PanARMENIAN.Net - Armenia is calling on Russia to help protect its territorial integrity, Secretary of the Security Council Armen Grigoryan said in an interview with the Public Television on Tuesday, November 16.

"Because there has been an attack on the sovereign territory of Armenia, we are turning to Russia with a call to protect the territorial integrity of Armenia under the 1997 agreement and within the logic of fulfilling mutual obligations under said agreement," Grigoryan said.

Local battles are underway on the Armenian-Azerbaijani border, the situation continues to remain extremely tense, the Defense Ministry reports.

Azerbaijan launched a new provocation in the province of Syunik on Tuesday, shelling the Armenian positions at the same time, the Defense Ministry reported earlier. The Armenian side has opened retaliatory fire to hinder the Azerbaijani military's advancement.

The Azerbaijani side has been using artillery, armored vehicles and firearms of different caliber to shell the Armenian positions of Syunik.

According to the Defense Ministry, the Armenian side controls the situation on the border.
