"I am confident that the decisive measures taken by the Japanese authorities will allow to quickly reveal the details of the murder of the former prime minister and punish the culprits." Abe died after being shot during a campaign speech Friday in Nara. He was 67. The suspect in the assassination of the former Japanese Prime Minister said the weapon he used was homemade, Nara Nishi police told a news conference on Friday, CNN reports. Tetsuya Yamagami, 41, admitted to shooting Abe, police said. Yamagami, who is unemployed, told investigators he holds hatred toward a certain group that he thought Abe was linked to.
