Vardanyan: Can't promise there won't be problems but this is the only way

PanARMENIAN.Net - Artsakh (Nagorno Karabakh) Minister of State Ruben Vardanyan visited several villages in Askerani region to meet with the locals, his office said Thursday, January 26.

Stressing the importance of direct communication with the population, Vardanyan noted that, especially in the crisis situation, providing the population with first-hand information, listening to them is of primary importance for overcoming the crisis.

"I think this is the most effective form of communication in Artsakh. We are indeed facing great difficulties, but a lot of work is also being done to overcome them, we are trying to move forward, finding solutions to new problems that arise every day,” Vardanyan said.

Vardanyan provided the local residents with detailed information about the current situation in the fields of food products, gasoline and diesel, electricity and gas supply, other consequences of the blockade and its impact on the economy, as well as the steps taken and to be taken by the Operational Headquarters headed by himself.

“The Minister of State noted that work is being done by all means in the direction of lifting the blockade, but, on the other hand, the government has to be ready and provide at least the minimum vital needs of the population in case of all possible scenarios.”

Weighing in on the reasons behind the blockade, the State Minister emphasized that Azerbaijan is trying in every possible way to break the spirit of Artsakh Armenians and achieve the depopulation of Artsakh through pressure and noted that he feels proud to see the resilience of Artsakh Armenians. "We have to go through these trials for the sake of keeping Artsakh Armenian and for the protection of the right to live in dignity on our land. This is a difficult road. I can't promise that there won't be problems, but I assure you that this is the only way that will allow us to preserve our homeland."

The participants of the meetings assured that they do not see an alternative on this path and are ready to face all difficulties for this purpose.

Since December 12, the sole road connecting Nagorno Karabakh to Armenia - the Lachin Corridor - has been blocked by self-described Azerbaijani environmentalists. Karabakh residents have reported food and fuel shortages, while hospital patients don't have access to essential medicines, with only a handful allowed transfer to facilities in Armenia proper.
